Radiology
From ultrasound to digital fluoroscopy to CT scanning, Tung Shin Hospital radiology capabilities provide fast, accurate and technologically advanced images for diagnosis and in some cases, treatment.
Computerised Tomography (CT Scan)
CT scanning is performed using Siemens subsecond (spiral) scanner to produce detailed cross sectional images of various areas of the body to help doctors diagnose problems of the brain, abdomen, chest and spine. This advanced technology reduces scan time significantly and saves precious time in emergency situations.
Digital Fluoroscopy
Tung Shin Hospital has just acquired the Shimadzu Corporation's flagship digital fluoroscopy equipment and software. This new technology provides exceptionally clear, images of organ systems, including colon and arteries in the body. These images help doctors to diagnose and treat a range of problems with an emphasis on patient safety and comfort as well as a significant reduction in radiation dose.
Ultrasound & Colour Doppler
The Department of Radiology provides a wide range of ultrasound services using ATL 5000 HDI advanced technology ultrasound scanner. Apart from examination of the abdomen, appendix, uterus and ovaries, the machine is equipped to provide high resolution excellent images of the breast, thyroid and testes. There is also a special transducer for transvaginal scanning and for scanning of the prostate through the rectum (transrectal ultra sound of prostate gland). This equipment also allows a biopsy of any area in the prostate gland that is suspicious of cancer.
The Radiology Department's ultrasound scanner has a colour function to image blood vessels, especially the carotid arteries in the neck, as well as the deep veins in the lower limbs.
Mammography
All mammograms are performed by female radiographers who are specially trained to produce high quality images for diagnostic purposes and for screening for cancer.
Our mammographic machine is also equipped with a special device to perform some breast biopsies (stereotactic biopsy) for small lumps that cannot be felt and also for biopsy of tiny calcification (microcalcification) that is suspicious of early cancer of the breast.
General Radiology
Tung Shin Hospital offers a complete range of examinations using traditional x-rays, including orthopantomograms (OPG) which provide excellent images of the jaw and teeth, especially for dental and orthodontic work.
Interventional Radiology
Some interventional radiology procedures are performed including:
- Percutaneous biopsies under local anaesthetics (lung, liver, breast, thyroid lumps) using CT or ultrasound for guidance.
- Percutaneous nephrostomy and abscess drainage under local anaesthetic using CT or ultrasound for guidance.
- Ultrasound-guided prostate biopsies.
